Common Digital Photo Restore Questions

Every image is individual, and it depends on the amount of the damage and time required to repair the image.

If it’s something as small as a mark, spot, or crease in the corner or small crease across an image, it can typically take 15-45 minutes. If there are tears throughout the images it could take up to several hours, especially if damage is across a subject’s face or multiple faces. Time is the main factor in the pricing, as well as the software used, equipment, and ongoing expenses of this software and equipment and the premises cost.

The time involved includes GST, and is based hourly rate to work out a restoration quote x time required.

Pricing is generally on a quote by quote basis based on the amount of time the job is estimated to take. The level of damage, the level of repair required, and where the damage is (ie: backgrounds compared to face damage) will influence the quote.

The link below is an example of the kinds of prices for digital photo restoration. It is not possible to determine the actual price the job will be without seeing the original photo first from the original or a good quality scan of the original emailed.

View pricing page.

A quote is provided free of charge, and the quote will not be changed once the job is agreed. To commence the work, a 40% non-refundable deposit is required.

Please note, these prices exclude printing. It’s also worth noting the the size of the image will affect the amount of time to restore the image, so larger ones will cost more. The price guides below are based on image sizes of 15cm to 20cm wide.

These are GUIDE PRICES only shown below. Each photo is unique and all photos are quoted at the time of viewing to confirm the pricing.

The time involved includes GST, and the business hourly rate to work out a restoration quote of $140 inc GST is based on costs such as equipment, software, electricity, premises leasing, business operating costs and other consumables as well as a manual labour hourly rate, so should not be compared to a salary or employed rate.

This really is a subjective question. You should consider professional restoration if you have:

  • Faded or discoloured family photos;
  • Historical photos that have been passed down through family members, or for archiving purposes;
  • Damaged or faded baby photos, memorable moments or wedding photos;
  • Photos affected by water, mold, aging or fire;
  • Images with torn and ripped edges, missing corners, wear and tear or missing pieces;
  • Images that may still be in good condition, that you just wish to have recorded digitally.

You may even decide not to get a damaged photo repaired, but simply scanned and archived digitally before more damage occurs so you have a record of the photo.

Scanning your photos in can be a great way to store them, and you may wish to look at a restoration later on, or perhaps have it scanned in, take a copy, and have a go yourself. Taking a copy means it doesn’t matter if you make a mistake, and could be a great way to learn.

We can scan your photos in using our commercial grade Epson Perfection V800 Photo Color Scanner, built for precise film and photo reproductions. Or you may choose to buy a cheaper scanner snd do your own scans. The options are plenty!
